Khamzat Borz Abaev's background

A native of Chechnya before settling in BelgiumKhamzat Abaev developed a passion for martial arts at an early age. Inspired by the legends of MMA, he embarked on a professional career, methodically climbing the ranks through sheer will, technique and strength.

Like most Chechens, he began with wrestling, followed by judo, where he reached the level of international competition. Jiu-jitsu, SAMBO and English boxing followed.

Then there is kick boxing, a discipline in which Khamzat won the title of Belgian amateur champion thanks to numerous victories all obtained by KO (none by decision). He suffered only two minor defeats on this long journey.

The experience he has gained through these different disciplines has enabled Khamzat to become a complete fighter, and has set him on the clear path to Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

Facing Fares Aroudj, he left no room for the slightest observation: a dazzling right hook, followed by a left hook and then another powerful right hook. Aroudj was knocked out in just 15 seconds- a phenomenal debut!

The buzz on social networks after Khamzat Abaev's spectacular KO against Fares Aroudj was impressive and beyond all control (over 1 million views on the networks).

For his second fight, Abaev takes on Joakim Jankovic (2-1-0) at MMA Foroyar, a strong opponent on the ground, accepted in short notice with only 5 days' preparation.

The battle is titanic.

Khamzat starts off strongly with a brutal right-left series that puts Joakim on the floor (still no observation round!). Despite a broken hand in the opening minutes, he keeps going and says nothing, not even to his coach, enduring the pain.

It takes mental strength to overcome the pain and go on to win this fight by KO in the 3rd round to the cheers of the crowd. Impressive.

Even with a fracture, Abaev was not rested for long, returning to training with a cast.

Khamzat has chosen to become a part-time teacher . A choice that highlights his desire to share, learn and train others.
