💐 When should I change my filter?

At ÖKO Europe, a filter must remain clean, effective, and replaced at the right time.

You don't have to do any calculations: we'll take care of it for you.

Automatic reminders via email, WhatsApp, or our free ÖKO Counter mobile app: you’ll be notified before the optimal date, so you’ll never use a filter that’s reached the end of its life.

Our smart ÖKO TAP calculator (below) takes into account your actual water usage and the average water quality in your area (based on your ZIP code) to provide a personalized usage estimate.

The result: replacement at just the right time—neither too early nor too late—to ensure your water remains at its best, without wasting your filter cartridge unnecessarily.

Unlike fixed-schedule approaches, ÖKO Europe adapts the pace to your needs: your daily routine sets the pace, not some arbitrary rule.

Hydrometric Title (TH)

Recommendation from ÖKO EUROPE

Hardness (explanations)

💧 What is water hardness?

Water hardness, expressed in °f (French degrees), indicates the amount of calcium carbonate it contains:

0 to 7 °F: Very soft water (low in calcium)

7–15 °F: Freshwater

15–30 °F: Moderately hard water

30–40 °F: Hard water

Over 40 °F: Very hard water

👉 The harder the water, the harder the filter has to work to remove limescale and dissolved metals, whichgradually reduces its capacity.

Explanation of the calculation

⚙️ How do we calculate your personalized lifespan?

Our calculator uses official public water quality data, which is regularly updated based on your ZIP code, and automatically adjusts the filter capacity according to your water hardness.

💧 Adjusted capacity (in liters) =
450 – (2.5 × water hardness in °f)

🔹 Practical example:

💧 If your water is 40 °F (very hard) → 450 – (2.5 × 40) = ≈ 350 L💧 If your water is at 10 °F (soft) → 450 – (2.5 × 10) = ≈ 425 L

➜ The harder the water, the harder the filter has to work to remove limescale and dissolved metals—which gradually reduces its capacity.

⚠️ Good to know
- A drop in flow rate or a return of a chlorine taste indicates that your filter is saturated.
- Replace it immediately to prevent bacterial growth.
- ÖKO Europe will automatically send you a reminder.

High-performance filtration

High-performance filtration

1

Innovation listed in the NASA Spinoff Program (2002)

Space-age innovation for your everyday water.

Originally developed for the International Space Station (ISS), ÖKO technology is based on an alumina nanofiber membrane combined with micropowdered activated carbon.

This system provides fast and efficient filtration directly from the tap, without the need for electricity or external pressure.

2

Preservation of essential minerals in water

Due to its nature and size, our ÖKO filter allows dissolved minerals (trace elements) to pass through: potassium, sodium, calcium, and magnesium.

It contains a scale inhibitor made of sodium pentaphosphate, which stabilizes calcium and magnesium to prevent them from precipitating and reduce white streaks, without affecting the mineral quality of the water.

High capacity

home water filtration

Estimated range:

Approximately 450 liters per cartridge, or approximately 3 to 6 months, depending on the quality and quantity of filtered water.

Examples:

Approximately 3 months for very hard water

+- 4 to 5 months for average water

About 6 months for freshwater

In France, tap water is safe to drink, meaning it meets current standards.

But between the treatment plants and your tap, it sometimes flows through old pipes that may leach small amounts of metals (lead, copper, nickel, chromium) or other residues invisible to the naked eye.

Added to this are microplastics, which have now been detected in the majority of drinking water systems in Europe, according to several independent studies.

Tests conducted by independent COFRAC-accredited laboratories (IANESCO, Eurofins) confirm that the ÖKO filter significantly reduces the presence of these contaminants to levels below the limits of quantification (LOQ)—in other words, undetectable under test conditions.

The result: cleaner, better-tasting water that’s safer to drink straight from the tap.

Individual responsibility

  • The filter's performance depends on the initial water quality and on strict adherence to the maintenance instructions provided in the manual.

Keep this and make sure to replace the filter regularly.

  • Each user remains responsible for the water they choose to filter.ÖKO Europe cannot control all situations in which the product is used.

Any improper use (standing water, unsuitable liquids, risky handling) is the sole responsibility of the person responsible.

  • Portable air purifier for general use (non-medical) – compliant with European regulations (Directive 85/374/EEC and EU Regulation No. 1935/2004).Performance specifications apply only to pollutants tested under standardized laboratory conditions.

The complete analysis reports are available on theLaboratory Analyses page.

Technical data

Filtration technology

Alumina nanofiber membrane (derived from the mineral pseudoboehmite) with a light coating of microscopic activated carbon.
Mechanical filtration (≈ 1.25 µm) and electro-adsorption of negatively charged submicron particles.
Same technology as our ÖKO water bottles, plus a built-in scale inhibitor to limit limescale buildup.

Scale inhibitor

The ÖKO TAP WATER uses a natural scale inhibitor composed of pentasodium triphosphate and starch.
This system prevents calcium and magnesium from building up in pipes and on cookware without removing them from the water. These minerals therefore remain present and beneficial to the body, but no longer form limescale deposits.
The ingredients are safe, commonly used, and comply with the international CA Prop 65 standard.

Size

14 cm x 10.9 cm x 6.5 cm

Temperature / Bypass

Filter at ≤ 37 °C (cold/lukewarm water) to protect the membrane.
For hot water: activate the bypass → direct unfiltered flow, ideal for kitchen use and dishwashing without straining the cartridge.
A one-time incident > 37 °C is not critical; avoid repeated instances where hot water passes through the filter. Filtration quality could be compromised.

Weight

330 grams (empty weight)

Materials

Made of food-grade PP5 polypropylene.
The material can withstand temperatures up to 100 °C without warping, allowing for the use of hot water via the bypass (unfiltered).

Flow

The average flow rate is approximately 2 L/min, but it may vary depending on the water pressure (in bars) and water quality.
Turbid water (e.g., sludge, particles, debris from construction work, or pump station malfunction) may temporarily reduce the flow rate until the water clears up.

Filter life and replacement

The filter is rot-proof and has no expiration date.
When stored in a dry place away from light, it can be kept indefinitely without deteriorating.
When in use, it provides approximately 450 L of filtered water, or 3 to 6 months depending on water quality and household composition.
For hygiene reasons, ÖKO Europe recommends replacing the filter every 6 months at most.
➡️ In exceptional cases, if the filter is used infrequently, removed, dried, and stored properly, it can be reused up to one year later.

Warranty

The ÖKO TAP is covered by a 2-year statutory warranty against any material or manufacturing defects, in accordance with Articles L.217-3 through L.217-7 of the French Consumer Code and Articles 1641 through 1649 of the French Civil Code.

Maintenance and Faucet

Unscrew and rinse the mixer faucet regularly to maintain optimal water flow.
Clean the outlet screen to remove any visible impurities or particles that may accumulate there.
A disassembly wrench is provided to facilitate this operation.
This screen acts as a mechanical pre-filter: it traps the largest particles from the tap water before they enter the membrane.
Periodic cleaning ensures smooth and long-lasting operation of your ÖKO TAP system, whether the bypass is activated or not.
